Session Description:

The business office employees carry responsibility for a variety of different functions that are critical to successful operations.  It is important for these staff members to understand the complexity of their job functions, how the functions interconnect and the impact on the organization. This business office boot camp is designed for individuals to gain an understanding of their various roles in the organization and learn best practices for effectively carrying out key functions of their job. 

To ensure the bootcamp provides quality content in an applied manner, the bootcamp will be led by industry leaders in healthcare finance, healthcare law and Medicaid eligibility. Fellow providers will share effective practices and tools as well. 

The bootcamp is intended to be interactive so come with questions!


Topics You Can Expect:

  1. Uncover the financial statements and gain an understanding of your responsibilities with preparing the financial information.  Topics will include learning how to interpret the balance sheet and income statement, assist management with managing cash flow, understand tax exempt status, monitor the use of credit cards, collect outstanding accounts receivable balances and other financial topics.
  2. KDHE Medicaid eligibility staff will discuss key terminology, eligibility criteria, walk through the application process, and share tips for application and communication success.  

  3. With increasing government enforcement, there is no better time to make sure your Business Office staff are familiar with clinical and operational compliance risks.  This session will cover a variety of topics related to compliance including without limitation the HIPAA Privacy, Security, and Breach Notification Rules, Office of Inspector General (OIG) enforcement areas in long-term care, completion of background checks, responding to subpoenas for resident records, and financial and healthcare powers of attorney.


 

Intended Audience:

This bootcamp is designed for business office managers and staff of different experience levels but content would also be beneficial for administrators.


 

Continuing Education:
This educational event has been approved for up to 6.0 continuing education hours in the core of Administration for Licensed Adult Care Home Administrators, Adult Care Home Operators and Dietitians by the Kansas Department of Aging and Disability Services. Health Occupations and Credentialing approved provider number (LTS A0009).
