This training is focused towards CNAs, CMAs and RAs. Others are welcome to attend, but this educational opportunity has been planned specifically for hands-on caregivers. 

 

Family Matters: Creating Person Centered Care Partners
Stephanie Gfeller & Judly Miller, Kansas State Center on Aging

Many discussion about person-centered care that include the family are focused on the challenges of working with family members or how they stand in way of person-centered care. Not this one! Stephanie and Judy will explore the importance of creating person-centered care partners out of resident family members. The barriers that make this relationship difficult and solution for overcoming those will be discussed. Individualized care plans and acceptance of risk are critical pieces of person-centered care and they will show you how family care partners can be an integral part of the process. 

 

Understanding Dementia and Caring for Those Who Have It 
Amy Siple MSN, FNP-BC; Newman University

Understanding dementia is key to being able to care for those who have it. This presentation will review the most common types of dementia and help participants understand why challenging behaviors occur. Strategies will be explored regarding the best way to interact with someone with dementia and tips for de-escalating someone with agitation will be demonstrated. 

 

Skills Fair
Jeanne Miles & Stacey Lewis, Hutchinson Community College

This will be an opportunity for training on best practices/skills refresher on hand washing and much more.

This educational event has been approved for up to 6.5 continuing education hours in the core of Administration for Licensed Adult Care Home Administrators, Assisted Living Operators and Dietitians by the Kansas Department of Aging and Disability Services. Health Occupations and Credentialing approved provider number (LTS A0009).
