Description:
The focus of this session is how to recover revenue after receiving a denial from a payer, guiding participants through a structured approach to appeals. It begins with root cause analysis, emphasizing the importance of correctly categorizing denials as either technical or clinical to determine the appropriate response. From there, it addresses the urgency of the timely filing clock, with specific attention to Kansas deadlines for submitting appeals. The session then explores how to craft a strong, evidence-based appeal letter that clearly supports the claim and improves the likelihood of reversal. Finally, it outlines the progression of Level 1 through Level 3 appeals, helping attendees understand when continued pursuit is worthwhile and when it may be more strategic to stop chasing a claim.
Objectives:
-- Categorize denials using standard ANSI reason codes to identify facility-wide trends.

-- Draft a clinical appeal letter that successfully disputes a "Medical Necessity" denial.
-- Create an "Appeal Calendar" to track deadlines and prevent lost revenue du to administrative oversite.
