Agenda
November 13, 2025
8:00-8:15 or 1:00-1:15 | Welcome & Housekeeping
8:15-9:30 or 1:15-2:30 | Communication Strategies Across the Stages of Dementia | Hollie Lowe, MA, LPC, NCC, James L. West Center for Dementia Care
This program provides practical guidance on how to effectively communicate with individuals living with dementia at various stages of the disease. Participants learn how dementia impacts understanding, expression, and behavior, and explore tailored approaches to foster connection, reduce frustration, and enhance quality of life. The session covers verbal and non-verbal techniques, active listening, and environmental adjustments, with an emphasis on empathy, respect, and maintaining dignity throughout the progression of the illness.
9:30-9:40 or 2:30-2:40 | Break
9:40-10:20 or 2:40-3:20 | You Noticed, You Spoke Up, You Documented It: How Caregiver Documentation Impacts Lives and Outcomes | Treva Greaser, BSN, RN, CRRN, C-NE, LNHA, Treva Greaser Consulting
It started with something small. A favorite breakfast untouched. A little more confusion in the morning routine. You noticed — because you know the person. You spoke up and took time to document it. That information helped the team take action before things got worse.
This 40-minute session will show how your everyday observations — when clearly communicated and promptly documented — support person-centered care, reflect the real needs of those you care for, and strengthen the team’s results. Your documentation also plays a key role in supporting accurate billing and helps the organization respond with confidence when records are reviewed.
What you notice — communicate and document — matters.
10:20-10:30 or 3:20-3:30 | Break
10:30-11:20 or 3:30-4:20 | Hospice 101: But I Don't Work in Hospice! | Amy Hensley, MSN, RN, Before the Casket
Think hospice doesn't apply to your role? No need to be nervous. Let's increase your comfort with the dying process, including knowing how to identify patients who may be appropriate for hospice referral, how to chart the changes and what to do when a patient dies.
11:20-12:00 or 4:20-5:00 | Leadership Lives Here: Making Your Influence Count | Karen Sturchio
Join Karen for an engaging presentation designed to empower Certified Nursing Assistants by exploring the impact of Emotional Intelligence (EI) and effective communication in their daily roles. Participants will learn practical strategies to lead with empathy, build stronger team relationships, and confidently influence positive outcomes in patient care.
12:00-12:15 or 5:00-5:15 | Closing & Housekeeping
