10:30-11:20 | Root Cause Analysis for Survey and Quality Improvement Success Pt. 2 | Brenda Groves, LPN, KFMC
We've all heard Einstein's definition of insanity, and it definitely holds true in long term care and quality improvement. We are going to make mistakes, but root-cause analysis can help us understand those mistakes and be proactive in not repeating them. Conducting a root cause analysis and implementing apt solutions help employers to significantly or completely prevent the same or similar issues and incidents from recurring.

11:30-12:50 | Lunch and Keynote address “Getting It All Done – Work/Life Balance” | Mea Austin, Executive Coach

1:00-1:50 | Plan of Correction Do’s and Don’ts -Brooke Bennett Aziere, Partner, Foulston Attorney’s At Law
1:50-2:20 | KDADS Plans of Correction | 1:50-2:20 | KDADS Plans of Correction | Lori Mouak, RN and Jesscia Patterson, RN, KDADS
It’s inevitable that at some point every long-term care leader will need to submit a plan of correction. The contents of the POC have a lasting impact on an organization and may influence financial penalties and follow-up surveys. This session will explore the elements CMS requires in a POC as well some suggestions of do’s and don’ts to consider when writing.  You'll hear about Plans of Correction from the perspective of an attorney and KDADS staff.

2:30-3:50 | Residents with Schizophrenia Diagnosis:  What Now? | Amy Siple, NP
Cross over symptoms of schizophrenia and dementia create challenges in assuring residents receive the appropriate diagnosis. A sharp rise in the number of reported schizophrenic cases in long term care centers across the nation has prompted CMS to conduct audits. This presentation will review the diagnostic criteria for schizophrenia and dementia. Participants will work through cases scenarios to help assist them in the internal audit process.
