Webinar: Preparing for Medical Review - How to Audit and Survive a RAC or MAC Review

April 6th, 2017

11:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Anyone who has lived through medical review knows it is not fun! In the recent past, skilled nursing providers have seen heightened scrutiny of claims via additional development requests (ADRs), denials from Medicare Administrative Contractors (MACs) and through Recovery Auditors (RACs). The mission of the Medicare Recovery Audit Program is to identify and correct Medicare improper payments in an effort to reduce fraud, waste, and abuse in the Medicare Program.

The purpose of this webinar is to review trends related to ADR, RAC and Insurance audits focusing on medical review trends by payer, denial trends, and audit triggers. Because rehab services generate significant revenue for providers, their documentation and billing may be scrutinized even more; the best defense against any medical review is clean, comprehensive, and supporting documentation and billing. Participants in this webinar will be offered practical tips and strategies for auditing therapy records for accuracy and compliance with Medicare regulations.

Objectives:

  • Identify denial/review trends and audit triggers by payer type
  • Review principles of effective documentation for nursing and therapy to support services delivered
  • Describe key elements in an audit program to prevent denials/recovery
